How can parents talk to children about gender stereotypes and gender diversity in developmentally appropriate ways? How do we create a school culture that nurtures all children's gender self-determination?

UC Riverside Gender and Sexuality Studies professor Jane Ward, PhD, leads a workshop for parents of elementary-aged children to discuss gender identities.

Young people now have a wide variety of new gender identities they are embracing: gender fluid, non-binary, transgender, genderqueer, and agender. What do these terms mean? When is it appropriate to talk with our children about them?

This workshop will focus on how we can support young people to express themselves authentically, without defaulting to stereotypes or placing judgment on other children's gender expression.
